Newsletter Week 6 Term 3 2024
Message from the Principal
P&C
I was warmly welcomed by Glen and the other parents and community members who attended the P&C meeting last week. Please remember that, as parents, you are automatically part of the broader P&C and are always welcome to attend the P&C meetings. In the meeting we discussed fund-raising progress and what the opportunities might be for providing some alternative seating and learning facilities for the Year Six area.
Veggie Garden
With a parent (James), we’ve taken a long look at the veggie garden and want to rejuvenate it back to its old self. Carolyn Davis will be working with Bunnings and James to plan what will work best and then build it in so that children can once again return to this area to learn and grow!
Front of the school
It has come to our attention over the last week that a number of rodents have made the ground cover in front of the school their home. This presents a health and safety risk along with the potential to attract snakes to this area. We’ve taken the initiative by cutting this back and over the coming weeks will be mulching the area and replanting with some more appropriate plants that won’t produce this ground cover. Your suggestions for what could go in this area are greatly appreciated!
Hats
Just a reminder that children should now be wearing their hats for outside play and activities. Acceptable hats are bucket, broad-brimmed and Legionnaire’s hats. Hoodies and caps are not appropriate substitutions. Your assistance with this is much appreciated.
Sharing food
Another reminder- Please speak with your children about not sharing food. We’ve had a few instances where we know this has happened and would love your support to stop this. We know you provide a balanced, nutritious lunch for your children, which sharing might impact that balance, as well as ensuring risks to any of our children with allergies are minimised.
Staffing
Please be advised that Penny Day is joining us fulltime, from next week (Week 7) as the year 1 and 2 Team Leader. If you wish to contact her either ring the school or use her email: penelope.day@ed.act.edu.au
South/Weston Region Track and Field Championships
On Thursday 22 August, 45 students represented Forrest Primary School at the South/Weston Track and Field Championships. All students experienced an action-packed and exciting day of competition and most importantly, fun through physical activity with their peers.
Congratulations to all students who competed and a special mention to our students who have qualified for the ACT Championships to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport on September 17. More information about this event will be coming soon.
